Employee Dependent Tuition Waiver
Dr. Damphousse’s Hopes and Aspirations High email announced a new tuition waiver benefit for staff dependents. Carole spoke briefly on the program.
There will be a 25% tuition waiver for staff dependents beginning in Fall 2023. Details are still being worked out.
Parameters - intended for children of TXST employees (anyone qualified as a dependent child)
Borrowing from ERS for requirements for eligibility to carry a dependent on insurance– Age 26 and under
Dependent must be admitted as UG student
Hope to make it as paperless as possible
Will be publishing details/FAQ’s on website when available
Speaker – Dr. Terrance McClain, Associate Director, University College
Success Coaching program helps students who need additional support by articulating goals, defining strategies and plans, developing visions for success, and overcoming challenges to achieve their visions.
“Near-to-peer” model - employ 22 graduate students as success coaches
Help students navigate school and work for those that have to work one or more jobs
Connect people with resources they need to have

There was a question about the expenditure for parking permits – weren’t they all donated this year?
Yes, Natalie believes the funds were transferred to us earlier, and then went out to pay for the permits. She will verify.

Staff Concerns Updates
Alicia Barthel, Director, Talent Acquisition and Inclusion
There was a concern submitted that applicants are receiving notifications from people admin way overdue for positions that are filled (months or even a year later)
Closing and transitioning the position to filled are dependent on the hiring department. Some departments hire at a fast pace. Department notifies HR that position has been filled.
If a TXST employee is the one filling that position, often managers see that as a promotion. Sometimes HR is not notified, and the position shows as closed, but not filled.
Talent Acquisition is working to streamline processes to help when positions are filled. Offer letters will be able to be sent through PeopleAdmin. Applicant will accept/reject the offer through their PeopleAdmin profile. The letter will come back to the hiring manager’s notifications. Hiring managers will be able to make changes to the offer letter and re-send it (in case of negotiations)
If there are negotiations after the initial offer is sent off, the manager can make edits. (Reminder - check what has been approved by budget and in PeopleAdmin before offering increases).
The offer letter is a template but will have fields that can be modified.
They are auditing some postings in PeopleAdmin. They don’t always hear back from hiring departments on whether they want the position left alone or closed as no-hire. If you are hiring - please make sure to connect with HR to close positions in a timely manner.
History tab in PeopleAdmin is a great place to see everything about a posting
Automated email notifications from PeopleAdmin are generated to applicants only when a position is filled or transitioned to closed/no-hire state.
Sometimes you need to close-no hire, tweak the posting and re-post to get a new/updated applicant pool.
HR encourages hiring managers to have open communication with applicants, especially ones that are interviewed.

Staff Council Awards and Scholarships
Anita Ford, Co-Chair, Awards and Elections announced that staff awards, staff scholarship and staff council elections are all upcoming this spring semester.
She encouraged staff to review the various web pages and start to think about people to nominate for awards.
